We created a series of story making tools for Penguin to encourage younger readers to make stories of their own.

Penguin wanted a set of digital tools for children to create, print and share a variety of innovative story forms. The site was aimed at children aged 6-11 years and is designed to encourage 'stealth literacy' by combining digital media and gaming vernacular.

We created three components, 'Remix-it', where younger children could customise existing short stories using drag and drop tools, 'Telling Tales' a series of puzzles that result in a customised book being produced for each user. and 'Comic Genius' an online character and story creation tool. These components combine to create an age-appropriate resource for children to create their own stories rather than read or watch other people's.

The tools allowed Penguin to experiment with ways to provide customers with a service rather than simply distributing content.
